MUN Commitment Letter

  • March 2019

    Dear Parents,

Your child has expressed an interest in being part of the MY-YMUN (Middle Years Yangon Model United Nations) conference in May. MUN is a program that focuses on global issues and debate. In preparation for the conference in May, they will be researching a topic and a nation as well as taking part in debates. They will learn to write resolutions and defend their position as a representative of a nation. In order to prepare for this conference, students must attend the weekly club held on Thursdays from 3-4 pm.

The conference will take place at Yangon International School (YIS) on Friday, May 10, 4-5:30 pm and Saturday, May 11 9-4 pm. Exact times will be confirmed closer to the conference date. The cost will be 25 USD, payable to the ISY cashier. The cost will cover food and other necessary materials for the conference.

Students are expected to be well groomed and dressed appropriately for each day of the conference. The dress is similar to that of real UN delegates. Gentlemen can wear trousers and a button-down shirt with jacket (no tie necessary; however, some gentlemen will be wearing ties). Ladies can wear a dress, a business suit or trousers and a nice blouse. Both gentlemen and ladies should wear dress shoes. Absolutely no jeans, sneakers, or sandals. Students are expected to look formal and business-like. No bright colors, short skirts or excessively high heels. Due to the hot season weather, jackets are not required. Ties are highly encouraged for those without jackets.

Please return the below portion to Ms. Leonardis by Thursday, March 21. Do not hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns.
    Thank you for your support,

    Sarah Leonardis
